Lake Chapala is located one hour south of the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and is only one half hour from the Guadalajara International Airport. Lake Chapala is a place where people come to enjoy the temperate weather, sunshine, lake breezes, a low cost of living, and friendly living. Lake Chapala is the largest lake in Mexico and is 80 km. long by 18 km. wide, which exceeds the area of the Dead Sea. There are a number of small towns located along the shores of Lake Chapala. Chapala is the first town that you come to when arriving from Guadalajara and Ajijic is about 10 minutes away from there. The majority of the expat community in the area live in the surrounding areas of Chapala and Ajijic.

San Juan Cosala is also nearby, and is noted for its hot springs and spas.
